Upcoming MADEP Imposed Regulations

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MADEP) has enacted new regulations, effective in 2011, requiring public water suppliers to reduce nonessential residential water use by 2016. This directive is a requirement of the renewal registration and permitting of our source wells. Water withdrawal permits and registrations for public water systems are issued by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection every five and 10 years respectively. Seekonk Water District residential customers will be required to reduce water usage to 65 gallons or less per person per day by 2016. In 2015, the average residential customer used about 86 gallons per person per day.
