Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 21G, authorizes the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to regulate the quantity of water withdrawn from surface and ground water systems. Seekonk is a ground water system. Under this law Seekonk is allowed to withdraw a daily average of 1.71 million gallons per day (MGD) equating to 624.15 million gallons per year (MGY). Dependent on weather conditions, Seekonk's withdrawal can exceed 500.0 MGY and in 2016 we pumped and treated over 546 million gallons of drinking water. By imposing the "Annual Water Management Program" Seekonk can abide by the established DEP requirements.
